IN A NUTSHELL…
I led the UX design for an integrated employee management feature to streamline security team operations.
I gained hands-on experience in a collaborative startup setting, working across departments and leading the UX/UI design for the initial feature of our product. Over four months, insights from client interviews with department heads informed core features and the initial marketing site, laying a user-centered foundation for streamlined employee management.
UNDERSTANDING THE GAP
I analyzed our team's conversations with Canada's largest security companies to identify areas for improvement.
The main challenge? Security companies are still relying on outdated software or paper-based systems to manage their operations, especially in scheduling. Our main competitors, TrackTik and OfficerReports, fail to provide a comprehensive solution that offers the flexibility these companies need to effectively manage large teams.
A FIRST LOOK AT OUR PRODUCT
I designed a key feature for our product launch, focusing on making our MVP polished.
I completed the employee management feature, using the Ant Design System to design the search and filter components, as well as methods for contacting and adding employees. Next, we'll create a dashboard for visualizing employee data, improve scheduling capabilities, and develop a block-by-block builder for incident reports.
GATHERING INTEREST
I developed a simple way for clients to stay engaged.
The product won't be ready for beta testing anytime soon, so it's crucial to build interest and excitement among our clients. To achieve this, I designed a waitlist and accounted for various stages, including filled states and error messages.
LEARNINGS
Adapting to constant pivots was a new challenge — and a thrilling one.
Startups feel like organized chaos. I’ve learned to be adaptable and embrace this unique process, which differs greatly from traditional environments. I made sure to leave clear notes for the developers and implemented changes quickly and effectively, always keeping the user at the center of my design decisions while maintaining consistency across the board.
