BobaTalks

Strengthening community engagement for university students

I designed the first-ever Community Page for BobaTalks, a platform serving 14,000 members, which launched in February 2025.

This new feature allows users to explore events, join the Discord community, and access curated resources tailored to their needs. By centralizing these opportunities, the page empowers members to connect, learn, and grow—transforming how they engage with career development and each other.

Achievements

Reduced task completion time by 37% and increased weekly traffic by 34%.

Know the User

University students seeking mentorship, guidance, and early-career opportunities.

Goals

Empower students to feel part of a supportive community, making next steps in their career less intimidating.

Approach

By making key resources more visible on the website, we’re opening up the community to more students—no longer limiting access to just Discord users or those willing to scroll endlessly to find a hidden link.

Boosted engagement by centralizing event visibility.

To address low engagement caused by a Discord link buried 7-9 scrolls deep and event visibility limited to Discord and LinkedIn, I created a Community Page that prominently features the Discord link and integrates an event calendar, making it easier for users to join the community and discover events directly on the website, boosting participation and inclusivity.

Built transparency with clear guidelines and attendee feedback

To address concerns about event safety and feedback, I introduced feedback forms and added clear community guidelines to event pages, empowering attendees to share concerns and feel heard. I designed this system to serve as a streamlined platform for collaboration inquiries, reducing the need for direct outreach to our founder, who already manages a high volume of messages.

Through this project, I built and implemented a design system that streamlined collaboration and ensured consistency. Critiquing with 7 other designers brought fresh perspectives and improved my work after hitting creative walls. By focusing on individual pages, we contributed to the broader goal of redesigning the website, improving engagement by fixing its previously difficult navigation. It’s still a work in progress, but we’re refining the experience through ongoing feedback to better meet user needs.
